Petrobras announced late on Thursday, January 3, 2013, a new oil discovery in the ultra deep waters of the post-salt(on top of the salt layer of the earth) of Campos Basin. The oil is heavy and therefore of less value in the international market, but the big advantage is that the discovery is located in the Marlim Sul field, next to an existing platform. Therefore, the company estimates that may put into production as early as next year. On average, the development of production of an oil discovery takes at least four years to five years.
Petrobras said in a statement that the well is located near the P-56 platform, which currently operates in the Marlim Sul field, where there is already installed structure of production and transportation. Thus, the company estimates that could accelerate its entry into production to 2014.
